PERT for Work (effort) Instead of Duration

Is it possible to use the PERT tool to enter estimates for
optimistic/expected/pessimistic work (effort) instead of
optimistic/expected/pessimistic work duration?

You can write a short piece of VBA that will calculate if for you in the same
manner.
A form and some code will be needed.

Actually, you can do it without VBA if you have some spare Number Columns.
You can use Numbers1-4. Enter the triple work estimates in Numbers1,2,3.
Number4 becomes a formula with weightings as you may need.
