I cut and pasted a bunch of pics into my presentation (jpg). Now my
presentation is huge, too huge to manage safely on my pc. Do I need to go
back and delete each picture and 'insert' it instead? If I group and save
and then ungroup will that have the same effect?
Thanks. :)

It's always best to insert vs. cut and paste to keep the
image size down. You could try using the compression tool
found within the picture tool bar (if you use PPT
2002/2003.

This was a good lesson for me. :)
I tried the compression tool, but it removed all of my animations and my
text boxes. Is there a work around?

Sometimes you can't predict the effect of the compression tool, when you've
pasted in your images. I remember a situation when I was finishing a
presentation of a colleague - I did not know she had pasted in the images
and wanted to compress the file ... The images ended up "jumping" through
the presentation, appearing on wrong pages, in wrong sizes, etc. Do I have
to mention this happened 11 o'clock in the evening the day before an
important client meeting? :-(

But there is one thing you can do, which is maybe quicker than re-inserting
from files. First: Undo the mess, the compression tool created. Cut out one
image and re-insert it using Edit - Paste special. Choose JPG or PNG as the
format. You will have to move the image to the right position, because it's
inserted in the middle of the slide, but it's quicker than searching for the
files to be inserted.

But you should use this method as an repair tool only. The best way is to
use Insert - Image - From File.

Kind regards,
Ute
