Pivot table or report containing text fields as data

Is there a way to get Access to show - in the Data section of the crosstab
table - text data?

I want to give principals a statistical table from my A2002/3 database,
showing how many kids (in the Data section) passed, failed, and stayed the
same (column heads) for each grade level (row heads).

Then I want to give them the same table but instead of totals in the Data
section, I want to show the names of the kids who comprised each of those
counts.

Ideas???
