plain text email issue

I'm running Office 2000 professional & the OS is XP
professional.

When I started running Outlook today, all plain text
email messages are incoming with a .txt attachment of
themselves. Does anyone know why this is happening and
better yet, how can I fix it? Thanks in advance! -Robert
