No matter what you do, it will never work for all. Sound would have to
be turned on for 1 thing. :)
Your animation will never work on my computer either, in case you are
wondering.

BTW, some web surfers find that VERY annoying as the sound can come
bursting forth at high volumes, making your co-workers think (know) that
you aren't working and if you have on headphones, causing severe pain to
the eardrums...

poiu..... wonders if he is wasting his time coming here for help......

oh and the volume is low.

poiu....... wonders why anyone would want to have they volume so high in the
first place and doing so would know the risks of perforating they eardrums
should the volume be such a high state to do so.

and... some.... most of my visitors want this and have given me the music to
play on the site. all sending the same track as I asked someone who has it
please send to me.

so still wondering..... does anyone know the answer to my question?

or should I be asking....

how does one play music in the background of a website where the download
box does not show and the music plays whether they use IE or FireFox.

thank you in advance that someone will answer a question and not criticism
the question put forward

p.s. should anyone ask the following question please do intervene and
criticise.
"how do I stop my child from breaking their neck while swinging from the
power pylon in the field across the road from us ?"

Dear Poiu,

I'm not sure I have the answer but here is what I do to have the background
music play.

On each page that I want the music to play I go to the Page's "Properties".
On the General Tab I go to the Background sound section. I MANUALLY type in
the "Full" path and file name of the audio file. I also check "loop"
forever.
Every time the page opens the music will download and play. It works in IE
but not in Firefox. I havn't gone to the firefox people yet to see what the
problem with their browzer is.

When I get done the script looks like:
<bgsound src="Sep14_Tracey_Dominique.mp3" loop="-1">

Hope this helps.

Poiu,
A couple of questions.

Why is the "hidden" command in your script?

Since it is not happening with everyone have you checked out the possibility
they may have a problem on their end?
I would think that if everyone was getting a popup then your program was
withholding its download so their computer could not play the music. But
evidently that is not the case.

Another possibility is their music program may not be functioning or is not
able to play your "WMV" file. If it can not play the file it would probably
ask the people to"download the file".

You might try a different song in a different format (ie. MP3) to see how it
functions. I'm not versed in WMV files. You should be able to do a goggle
search and find info on conversions.

Don't know if that helps, just some observations.

Sincerely,

FM

Dear Poiu,
I'm sorry I didn't take the time to look up the "WMV" file format before I
wrote the above. It's a "Windows Video File". Are you trying to play the
sound from a video file? If so, that's a whole different animal. The
"hidden" command makes a bit more sense if you're playing a video, with it's
accompaning sound, and hiding the video. I can see also why a popup would
come up asking for the file to download. If there is a particular song you
are after I would suggest you convert it from a CD to an audio file and then
upload it. I beleive the "background sound" program is intended to only play
audio files. Its like mixing apples and oranges. It's not intended to work
with video or "flash" either.

Sincerely,

Fm

yes that make sense about it being a WMV file, what file extention should i
be looking to save my file as?

you say audio, what is the extention for this?

thank you.

Audio extensions: (this list is nowhere near complete, and not all
formats are suitable for the web, and may not be suitable for your
music)
..wav (large files)
..mid
..aiff
..mp3 (one of the most universal)
..wma (Windows Media Audio)

Dear Poiu,
I agree with Ron. Let me give you some stats. File sizes for a 3.57 minute
song: *.wav = 20,469kb, *.wma = 3,738kb and an *.MP3 = 1,858kb. You can see
the loadability problems on wav and wma files. You will need a plugin for the
Windows Media Player to record mp3 and I don't think it makes short clips. I
would suggest you get software that will allow you to record in several
formats and in time sequenced clips. (a 24 second mp3 file is about 150 kbs)

Don't forget that in front page you have to enter mp3 files manually for
background sound, with the full path.

Good luck
