Playing CD tracks

I use PowerPoint(2000&XP) and I'm familiar with the
various options but I have not done much with playing CD
tracks and inserting sounds. At least I have not been
very succesful.
It seems like having the sound tracks continue through
various slides is not that easy to do. I have played with
it some but it is frustrating. Does any one have a good
resource for getting the basics of working with CD's,
sound files, and recording media that you could recommend.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
