Playing simultaneous audio files

How can I play a song as a background song throughout a presentation and have
narration on different slides?

This ability is function of your sound card and it's driver. You need to go
to the manufactures web site and see if they have a "WDM" driver for your
sound card. Be aware though that while this will work on your PC, it will
not work on another PC without the proper driver installed.

But how is it done? can it be embedded into the presentation itself so that
there is background music playing non-stop between slides and then play a
narration specific to those slides and that it could play on any computer?

Example:
Slide 1 opens:
background music starts to play somewhat quietly in the background as
ambient music.
Narration plays while music plays simultaneously.

Slide 1 ends and slide 2 opens.
Background music is still playing non-stop from Slide 1
Narration 2 begins and plays simultaneously while background music is still
playing.
Narration 2 ends, but background music continues.

Slide 3 starts
Background music is still playing non-stop from Slide 2 and Slide 1
Narration 3 begins and plays simultaneously while background music is still
playing.
Narration 3 ends.

Thanks for the help

Insert (Insert > Movies & Sounds > From File) the first sound track onto
slide one.
Set it's animation to play automatically and to "Continue Slide Show", and
then set it to play for the number of slides desired. (Or to 999 slides.)

Now repeat the insertion on each slide for each narration. You can set them
to play automatically or on a mouse click of the slide or a trigger.

That did it. However, in order to add narration, I needed to go to Slideshow
- record narration. From that point, I read what was to be narrated for each
slide and click on the arrow key to advance to the next slide and narrate on
that slide until it was done. I also found out that you need to have the
audio file handy (same directory as the presentation) otherwise the
background music doesn't work. Thanks again for your help.
