Please help! Can't use Entourage suddenly.

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

My database has gone bonkers. Besides not being able to access subfolders (the little tick mark to expand is gone), the 5 of the 6 interface icons art (mail, address book, etc) in the upper left are not showing properly. Only Project Center icon is okay. I took a screen shot of it but I guess no attachments are allowed here so will try and describe.

Instead of the icons, I see a squished bitmap graphic that says QuickTime PICT. When I click on one of the 5 bad icons the screen changes as usual, but the icon doesn't change.

Nothing about any of this is showing up in the error log.

The icon problem is annoying, but the subfolder problem is what's killing me.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Thank you kindly,
Blue

We've had another report like yours, but it is very unusual. I don't
remember what we found so let's start with trying to determine where the
problem is located.

Any other type of accounts or just POP?
Exactly what version of Entourage 2004?

1) If you create a new Identity in Entourage do you see the problem. If yes,
then it's database corruption. See below for how to rebuild. If no, then...
2) create a new User in System Preferences. Test Entourage there. Does the
problem go away? If yes, then it's a conflict in your User's folder, if no,
then it's system wide.

How to rebuild:

Let me know what the test results are.

It turned out my problem was, uh, caused by me... I had a hard disk failure a few days ago and in the installing and updating I neglected to be sure that all my OSX software was up to date. Turns out even if you update it once, you should go back and check for additional updates.

So (fingers crossed) everything is back to normal again.
