I help at our local Parish and would like to publish a local Parish
newsletter on write ups created in MS Word 2000 - how can I convert those
articles to MS Publisher 2000? All help would be greatly appreciated.

Copy and paste the text in.
Ask for image files separately (and ask for them in an image format, and
*not* as Word documents).
Insert the images to match the layout in the original document (or use your
own layout, if you want)

Hi Jim,

In addition to Ed's excellent advice, you could also just
open the Word file in Publisher. Open Microsoft Publisher
2000, the go to File > Open > and change the file type to
Microsoft Word 97-2000 *.doc and browse to the Word file
in question. Publisher will IMPORT the Word file,
converting it for you. However, the graphics will not
carry over. You will need to copy/paste the graphics from
Microsoft Word into Publisher (having both open at the
same time).

If you are talking about Publishing to the Web, you are
aware that Word 2000 can Save As a web page, and you can
publish it as a web page with out having to go through
Publisher.

I really appreciate the help from both of you, but I do have one more
question: if the file to be pasted requires more than one page in Publisher
2000. how do I roll over to the next page?

Did you find out anything? I am looking too. It seems
this might be a waste of money - I'm so frustrated, I'm
ready to throw it out! I'm volunteering for our PSO
(PTA), seems like a lot of trouble.

What kind of difficulty are you having? Publisher will import Word documents
with ease. You will still have to manually position the graphics since Word
handles graphics inline whereas Publisher is a page layout application.

You just bought Publisher 2000?

If you have just bought Publisher 2002, you are eligible for a free upgrade
to Publisher 2003 when it comes out (I believe). Publisher 2003 has greatly
improved in the area of Word Document importion.
