pointer in text

When I am typing in Word or Outlook, my text moves to wherever my pointer is
resting. How can I change this so that I am not typing garbled messages?

Applications are supposed to enter text at the cursor! If you mean the
cursor moves unexpectedly, then keep your hands away from the touch pad on
your laptop.
