POP3 does not delete messaes from server

Bill KImmerly

I am using Outlook 2002 to receive email from a web
server by POP3 protocol. When I set up the account, under
advanced settings, I left unchecked the box that
says "Leave copy of messages on server". As such I expect
when a message is downloaded to my Outlook client that it
is deleted from the server. This is not the case. The
message reamins on the server and is downloaded again at
the next Send/Receive cycle...and again...and again. What
gives??

I'm having the exact same thing happen and it's annoying
as 'heck'... I download my email at work and at home and
connect delete it off the server and this isn't an issue
with Outlook Express since that is what I used prior to
Outlook 2003.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Eric M.

I'm not sure if this is due to importing from Outlook
Express but I was also having problems with Outlook 2002
swtiching accounts in the rules wizard on me. I added a
rule and went back in after it worked improperly and it
was wrong again.

This is what I did to fix it:

I deleted all of my email accounts, I have 10 of them, and
then closed out Outlook, opened it and added the accounts
manually back in. That seemed to stop the duplicates.

Hope it helps,
Eric

Eric M. did you ever get a response on this? I'm having
the same problem and it is getting old.

Thanks, Suzanne
