POP3 Passwords Not Saved

M

M Hansen

When configuring POP3 Email Accounts for Outlook, the
passwords are lost everytime I exit the program (although
they are clearly marked to be svaed). I re-formatted my
HD and re-installed XP & Office and same result. I once
had the same problem with the passwords for dial-up
connections in an old Win 98 computer I had. This time
round I don't fancy reentering the passwords for several
accounts everytime I want to download my email. Does
anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Thanks

There have been several recent issues with passwords not being retained with
Outlook. If you're running Outlook 2002, the SP1 solves many of these, so
start there. If not, here are some other solutions:

For Outlook 2000 or 2002 on Win 98, NT, or 2000:

For Outlook 2000 on Windows 2000:

(IMO) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q259416

For all Outlook versions on Windows XP (note, this article is written for OE
but the solution applies to Outlook as well. Just ignore the parts that
refer to OE):
