posting a PPT file on my site for client to download

Milo

I sometimes (ie today) have to send a powerpoint file to a
client that gets too big for email. I'd like to be able
to post it to my website for downloading.

Just tried putting the ppt file in a folder and published
my frontpage 2002 site. then I went to the direct link,
hoping it would ask me if I wanted to "save" or "open" the
file. What IE did instead was open the file in IE. I
could see all my slides and hear the sounds, but don't see
any way I could save it to disk.

Is there a way to either allow the client to save it from
IE or, better still, post it to my site such that its a
downloadable file rather than a file to open?

Sorry if this turns out to be an PPT question more than a
FP2002 question; trying what I can for a fast answer for
my client.

Why not put it in a zip file, then put it on your web for download?

That worked pretty nicely and will probably get me through
today (haven't heard back from the client yet). So
THANKS!!!

Because i do get some clients who are REALLY unsavvy with
computers, though, it's still no guarantee that I won't
have to walk them through loading WinZip (if they are even
willing at all! I've had Mac clients who refused to load
RealMediaPlayer so they couldn't watch my video clip.)

is there someway to post the actual file and make it
a "open or download" situation instead of an automatically
open?

Not to my knowledge. But you could try asking in the PowerPoint newsgroup.

Place a note beside the link saying "Click to View, Right-Click and choose
"Save Target as" to download. (Assumes Internet Explorer running on
Windows)
