powerpoint 2003 color print properties problem

Have Office 2003 (recently upgraded from Office 97) with Win xp home SP2.
My default printer (HP 960) is set to black and white under print
properties. I mostly work in a limited user windows account (no admin
rights) and usually change the print properties to color when I want to
print in color, from within the application. This works for all my software
and always worked within Office 97. It also works fine with Microsoft
Word and Excel.

But from within Powerpoint, when going to print preview, even when the
photos on a powerpoint slide are in color, and show color, the preview
shows black and white and will print as black and white, even when print
properties are set to print in color. The only way to print in color is
to change the default printer settings / properties within control panel.
Interestingly, I have no problem if i print through my network to another
computer that has a different printer. When I set the properties in color
there is no issue. I never had this issue with Office 97

I have updated Office to SP2 and wonder if there is some subtle setting I
need to fix.

Thanks

Just one more note - this happens even from admin account - so it is not
related to limited rights in the windows account I use.

Not exactly the problem that you link to. I can print in color, as long as
I set the preferences through control panel / printers. I cannot seem to
change the preferences from within the powerpoint application itself. I did
not have this issue for office 97.

As Mary said, you might update your printer drivers. There was, for example,
an issue with not being able to print landscape (or portrait?) unless you
went into Windows Control Panel and changed the page orientation there. It
was generally resolved by getting more up-to-date drivers for the printer.
This sounds similar.

driver not the issue I do not believe - as I had latest driver and no issue
with office 97. But - in trying to update from HP website, it said there
was a new driver but i could not update it - install failed. I had the
same one I think from early 2002 but i need to investigate. Yet there is no
issue with word or excel. so I wonder if it is a powerpoint thing.
