Whenever I type a word it actually takes a fraction of a second untill it
appears on screen. What might be the problem?

You PC might be infected with Spywares, all kinds of Malwares and Virus.
Delete your Cookies folder and Temporary Internet Files from all Users
desktop. Daily maintain your PC and uses all available anti-spywares
program and Defrag once a month. Then tell us what happen.

It actually has nothing to do with that. He is hitting a (known) bug in
PPT 2007. As the bug report site went offline on 10/30 though, I can't
look up anymore if there was a workaround for this issue or not, or
whether it was resolved in B2TR.

If OP try all our good suggestion and come out with the truth then all
are happy. Just try NOT to maintain your PC with today's storms of
Malware's waiting for you --- no question if NOT surfing the Internet.

Cheers,

There is no question that the OP should anyhow be doing what you
suggested. I just don't think that it will address this particular
issue.
