Save it as a Web Page and a folder will be produced that contains the HTML as
well as the images and sound and video files.

I saved the Powerpoint file as HTML, yes, a folder was created and yes, it
had HTML of each slide and the folder also contained a GIF file of each
slide but it didn't have the individual files that make up the slide. Could
this be impossible?Maybe those files can NOT be found in the Powerpoint
file?

thanks,

Yeah, but it's sounding like I'm not going to see them! You know, for
instance, a slide has a picture embedded in it called "avalanche.jpg",
there's no way I'm going to see THAT file, is there? I'm going to see the
..GIF of the slide only, right?

If you want to extract a JPG you can open the presentation, select the image and
copy it, and then paste it into Photo Editor and you'll have the original which
can simply be saved. Photo Editor was discontinued with PowerPoint 2003, but
you didn't mention what version you are using so I can't predict whether you
have it installed. Pasting into other image editors will not give you the
original size and quality.

You can also save the full slide as an image and then crop out the JPG part.
See the following for tips on how to improve the quality:

Did you not install Photo Editor? It's on your CD. Run setup and select
Add/Remove Features. Click on Office Tools and select "Change Options" and
check Photo Editor and the proceed and it will be installed.
