PowerPoint Minimum Requirements

Mr. Old Laptop

My computer has a Pentium w/ MMX, 32 MB RAM, 623 MB Hard-Disk space, and runs
Windows ME. I am interested in purchasing PowerPoint 2003 (which is the only
version I've seen in stores). I know that I don't meet the requirements for
PowerPoint, but I'm wondering if that just means that if I got it it would
run a little slower, or would it not work at all? My sister is getting
married soon, and I just want to be able to run a PowerPoint display for the
reception on my laptop that she's already created on her desktop. Thanks.

Your problem isn't just the hardware, it's also the software. Office 2003
requires Microsoft Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows XP, or
later. That means it won't run on Windows ME.
So you'd have to upgrade your operating system, and I don't think that your
system is really hefty enough to run Windows XP.

If you only need to show a presentation, you can download the PPT 2003
Viewer.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows 98 Second
Edition, Windows ME, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

If your sister didn't include the new animations and transitions in the
presentation, you might want to use the older PPT 97 Viewer.

It will also run on Windows ME.

Be sure to test the presentation with the Viewer, as you might run into
glitches. 32MB isn't very much RAM, either, so the presentation (depending
on what's in it) may run slower than you expect.
