When I try to insert a movie into ppt 2003, a green square appears in the
upper left hand corner of my screen and ppt locks up and errors. Please help!

I can't tell what's happening with just a "green box" description. Can you tell
us more about it?

I think that the first thing I would do is go to Help > Detect and Repair. Have
your Office 2003 CD handy because you may need it.

Then, go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and open one of the video files.
Does it play okay?

There is really no other way to describe the green box, at first it flashes
down the left hand side of my screen and then becomes solid in the upper left
hand corner of my screen and the hour glass appears and I have to use the
task manager to get out of ppt. I already tried uninstalling & reinstalling
my Office 2003. And the file play when I play them in windows media player
and with mplay32.exe. I read on another help page about video editors
sometimes causing problems. I had installed pinnalce studio 9 and was trying
to use it, but have since uninstalled it. Could this be the problem?

My guess is you have installed some other software that has changed your
codec settings? Any recent software installs?

Have you rebooted your system?

Do you have any add-ins installed?

Have you updated your video driver recently? It's a good idea to check for
updates every two or three months.

See:
Drivers and such?

Also, what is the full path to your video file? Is it located in "My Documents?

I did install Pinnacle Studio 9 dvd/video editor and I have since uninstalled
it, I'm sorry but I don't know what the codec settings are or how to check if
they have been changed or what they should be set at.
