PowerPoint, PNG's & transparency

Hello all,

I've been working on a presentation using PNG images which
should support the transparent areas nicely in PowerPoint
2002. I'll be burning the presentation to CD and it will
be distributed to several people with several different
types of machines, OS's, processors, etc.

I have read here and there that some PNG's do not appear
with a transparent background (it's black instead) on some
computers but I don't know the reason why. I've also read
that some PNG's aren't visible at all on some machines.
Can anyone give me some more information about this issue?
