Powerpoint process still active in TaskMgr after closing it

When I start PowerPoint, I can use it without problem, create pres, open
other ones, modify them, save them, etc...
But when I close PowerPoint, I've noticed that although the app is closed,
the PowerPoint process is still running and take a clear % of CPU.
If I restart PowerPoint then, a second process is created etc...

Any ideas to avoid that?

When I restart Windows, the process is of course no more here.
But if I re-open PowerPoint and close it, the process is back in the Task Mgr.
Sometimes, the typical error message "PowerPoint found an error that it
can't correct..." is coming when closing PowerPoint.

According to this link(
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320365 ) , I've
already tried to uninstall Norton AV but the problem was still there.

Any other ideas?

Have you ran "Detect and Repair"? If not I would do so now.
