powerpoint will not read file that came from outside US

I frequently receive pps files from a friend in Venezuela, but my powerpoint
2003 will not read it. Is there some kind of code protection that I need to
get around?

Can you please clarify "will not read it"? What happens? Can you open the
file? Do you receive error messages?
