I'm currently test-driving Office 2004 and am liking it EXCEPT for one
new feature which seems to be more like a bug.
I'm in France and use a French (AZERTY) keyboard. I write in French and
English. When processing text in PPT, I can use Tools/Language to
specify whether it's French or English (US/UK) and the spell-checker
works just fine.
BUT I am also heavily reliant on the AutoCorrect feature (over the
years it has evolved into a highly customized speed-type utility). No
problem in Word - if the text is specified as English, the spellcheck
is for English and the AutoCorrect feature is for English. In PPT, by
contrast, the AutoCorrect feature is specified by the selected keyboard
layout. So if want to use AutoCorrect, I have to switch to a (virtual)
QWERTY - with disastrous consequences, as the AZERTY layout is now
wired into my brain.
This can't be right: I mean who on earth would ever want to have
spellchecking in one language but AutoCorrect in another when entering
text?
There should at least be some way to override it: even if AutoCorrect
is determined by default by the keyboard layout, there should be an
option to allow you to force it to use a different 'dictionary'.
Failing that, there must be a workaround - some way of renaming files
in the system so as to fool the application into picking the list of
English words instead of the French one (I'm not smart enough to figure
it out...).
Any suggestions much appreciated.
