Prepare a PPT file with different Backgrounds

When inserting a PowerePoint slide with a different background from
another PPT file, how do I keep the original Background on the new PPT
file?

It seems to me, some inserts work fine with their own background.
Recently, I inserted 3 slides into a 'Black' background PPT file, the
original background of the inserted slides was changed to 'black'. How
can I keep the original background?

TIA,
Jeffrey
