Prepare Word for quick start?

Svetlana

Hello,

I use Word 2003 as my standard editor in Outlook 2003. Wenn I write a
new mail (or anwer an existing mail), the first time MS Word opens, it
will take 20 to 30 seconds. After that Word will open almost
immediately for any other mail written later.

Is there a way to prepare Word for quick start at any time, for
example through including a special process during the startup phase
of Windows XP?

If you use Word often enough, you could start Word as soon as you boot up,
or whenever you wish.
Any app is going to take longer the first time it is opened.

In addition, there is the overhead of Outlook accessing an instance of Word.
The first time will always be slower.
The time will be reduced if Word was already running.

Do you really need to use Word as your email editor?

Hi Howard,

Thanks for your quick answer.

Do you really need to use Word as your email editor?

I'am not sure. Are there alternatives to Word as email editor?
I'd like to be able to:
- choose the font (Arial, 10)
- have MS Proofing tools 2003 check the grammar and spelling in
English, German and French.
Do these two things work with a more simple editor?

I put Word in the Autostart folder, so now it starts at the PC boots
up. But in fact I don't need it at this point, I just need it to be
"activated". What can I set so that it closes automatically?

I accomplish such tasks by doing the editing in Word and then copying into
the mail program.

Then do not atart Word when you boot.
Start Word just before you need Word.

You can either have a Word process running, or not, otherwise best you can
do is start Word and then minimize.
You could start a non-visible instance of Word via a macro and then not
close that instance, but that would likely lead to trouble in some other
way.

In the properties for the shortcut to Word in your Startup folder there is a
setting that allows you to start Word minimized. Does that help?
