Preparing project schedules and tracking them

What are the recommended ways of preparing project schedules and
tracking them?

Hi,

This question is a bit optimmistic - a course on project management
techniques (even forgetting the soft skills) takes about two days!

But for starters, if you have Project 2003, the Project Guide is just that -
a good guide to use MS project for planning and tracking. I couldn't do
better in a short span of time.
