Hey guys...

I just tried to use a font I've never used before AmazoneBT..kinda nice
script font..anyway when I reopen the Pub file, it informs me that it's a
preview-only font. Not sure what that really means.

Sounds like you might have Font Embedding enabled. Try turning it off.

Yes I do. But, what does it mean anyway, I switched to another font so it's
not a big deal...was just wondering what?

AH! Thanks for that...makes sense. I wish the popup would explain that more
betta. I wonder where it came from...as I've bought all my fonts except for
a couple of freebies.

Thanks again!

Rob

The fact that you bought them - more accurately, the rights to use them -
gives *you* the right to print them but that license doesn't extend to
someone else. Many fonts are restricted in the same way.

I understand but that would be really stupid if I bought the license to use
the font, yet cannot embed it into a design I created so I can take that
design to a printer who may or may not have that font. So I paid for a
license to just look at something and not actually use it? I suppose I could
read the license...is it embedded in the font file?

This has probably been discussed a zillion times eh?

Not sure where it came from, maybe Clip Art cd.

It's not by big issue right now...maybe part of it...though.

I'm working on 32 page booklet, everythang looks fine in Pub but when I
output to PDF (I only have Acrobat 4 and also Primo) but Acrobat 4 is what
I'm using. When I output, no matter what I set font embedding to, I have
lots of fonts that are defaulting to some ugly font. It's driving me nuts.
Also a couple of the photo images are scrambled (looks like someone swirled
the image about with a toothpick..totally weird).

So I have two interesting problems outputting to pdf...weird font
subsitutions, and swirly photo images (only a couple).

Of course I'm on a deadline as well.

Two fonts I'm having probs with are Vivaldi and Signature and probably a few
others...like AvantGuard BT...Vivaldi I got from a free site,
Signature...maybe that one too but not sure. But there are others that
should be fine and aren't.

I have Pub set to embed all fonts and I think the same for Acrobat.

I'm losin it! :)

Oh...forgot to answer the question; no when I built this machine I never
moved my font manager over to this puppy. I was using a free one that you
guys had recommend, now I forgot which it was, but I did just buy (like 10
minutes ago) a CD with 2000 fonts and a font manager..probably a piece
o'junk but I will find out shortly.

:)

was that a run on sentence?

ALL my problems were caused by Acrobat 4 Writer, Distiller had disappeared
and I couldn't figure out how to get it working again, so I downloaded
Acrobat 8 Trial and EVERYTHING is working as it should; except me. I am now
reduced to a mumbling puddle of ectoplasm - it may take days to recover.
