Hello,

Base don my research, we can't set a default for all documents that we view
in Word, because the view setting is stored with each individual document
as a document property. You can save your document in the view with which
you want it to open. Documents that you receive from others will open with
the view in which they were previously saved.

It has been documented in the following article:
"Select a document view"
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP051900451033.aspx

However, there is an option that we can set to avoid starting documents in
Reading Layout view. You can clear the "Allow starting in Reading Layout"
option on Tools | Options | General tab.

Or you can download "Office 2003 Policy Template Files and Deployment
Planning Tools" from link
http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2003ddl.htm and apply the
setting using Group Policy. For more information, please refer to the
following article.

If anything is unclear or you need further assistance on this issue, please
feel free to let me know.

Hello,

First of all, you need to install Office 2003 Resource Kit. You can
download it from the following link.

Download: Office 2003 Editions Resource Kit Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4bb7cb10-a6e5-4334-
8925-3bcf308cfbaf&DisplayLang=en

After install Resource Kit, click Start - Run, type "gpedit.msc" and click
OK.

In the Group Policy Management Console, expand User Configuration.

Right click on Administrative Templates, click Add/Remove Templates, click
Add button.

By default, it will open C:\Windows\Inf folder. Select WORD11.adm.

Locate the select User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Microsoft
Office Word 2003 - Tools | Options - General, the "Allow starting in
Reading Layout" setting is on the right pane. You can configure it there.

For more information about how to use group policy to manage users'
configurations, please refer to the following article:

Hope it helps.
