just want to simply print a doc.
program asks where i want to save it?
goes into imaging program?

Open the File | Print dialog and see what printer you have selected (make
sure it's a physical printer) and make sure you don't have "Print to file"
checked.

thanks Suzanne, you were right. when I added Office 2003 it changed my
printer default.
