printed product is different than on screen

Microsoft Publisher- I have formed a rectangle and set the color to be "0% transparent to 100% transparent" which creates a fade to nothing look. Well, when I print it, it is not transparent at all. It is a completely colored in rectangle. I have put it on CD and taken to Kinko's and the same thing happens. It's not the printer and probably not the program (Word does it too). Any suggestions? Please help if possible.

Fact of life when not printing to an inkjet printer.

There are various work arounds, but it depends what you have to do.

This is a known issue with Office XP and Office 2003. It can be worked
around by using certain models of inkjet printers, and certain PDF drivers,
in certain setups. But you'll be lucky to get it to work.
A workaround in Publisher 2003 is to create a high-res TIF file.

You didn't specify the workaround

Well a high res TIF file is not the workaround either in many cases!

It depends on what you need and desire to achieve what the workaround is -
hence why I asked.

I am particularly blonde this morning, and so can't think of any
circumstances where the high-res TIF file would not be appropriate.
Can you suggest any?

Ed senile and old and lacking in knowledge would be a better term than
insulting blondes.

to make this kind of a comment. It's one thing when a woman (blonde

Must be a culture clash. Over here, it is generally accepted to be having a
"blonde moment", even if you aren't blonde or female.
You'd never hear me kiddingly refer to thinking with my "groinal
attachments".
Aww!! Why not?
