Printing a booklet

K

KL Anders

Hello,

I have created a 44 page booklet that I am now ready to print, however pages
12 - 33 will not print. Any suggestions???

Publisher 2007?

Is your printer driver current? Go to the manufacturer's web site and look
around for an updated driver. It is always wise to completely remove a driver
before installing/re-installing.

How to clean up printer drivers

I can print a test 44 page booklet correctly to a PDF. You might want to try
this to save paper. It should tell you if your printer is the problem or if it
is the publication.
www.primopdf.com is a free PDF converter.

Do you have a duplex unit?

Thanks for responding! I probably should have provided more information in
my first posting...

A. I've tried printing it at home and at FedEx/Kinkos - no luck either place
B. The booklet is a copy of an old booklet that was sent to me via e-mail
and I have made many changes including adding/deleating pages
C. Print preview doesn't doesn't how the pages either.
D. The booklet prints in groups of 4

I don't know if any or all of these things could have something to do with
the problem.

I don't think I have a duplex unit (printer?).

It seems so strange to me that only the beginning and the end of the book
prints and the middle does not.

I'm desperate because I have to have a copy of the book by 11:00am Monday!

Any other information you can offer will be gretly appreciated. In the
meantime, I will update my printer driver.

Thank you so much!

What are your instructions to the printer when you do print? Have you selected
both sides? As Don says, it could be waiting for you to turn the pages over.
Have you ran the *two-sided printing setup wizard?* This is a 2007 setting.

K

KL Anders

This is not a printing problem. The first pages and the last pages are
printing just fine. It seems to be a Publisher "problem", perhaps a
formating issue that I've somehow done and can't undo. I know it's not the
printer, because the print preview is missing those pages as well. My
printer only prints on one side, then I use the copy machine to do two sided
copies to complete the book. I've done these kinds of books in the past and
they always print ok.

Are either of you aware of some sort of formatting that could be on those
middle pages and would keep them from printing? I thought maybe it was the
number of pages I had, since it prints in groups of four, but 44 pages should
work fine.

Thanks again for any suggestions!

What happens when you try to output to a PDF, as Mary suggested, are the
pages missing then as well?

Silly...but are you sure you have the entire range of pages selected to
print?

The original (old) booket that was sent to you via email...are those the
pages that are not printing?

If you still have the old original file...try opening that and print
that...does it print ok on your machine?

Well, I can't remember how to print to a PDF - it's been about three years
since I've done it and I can't seem to remember!

I double checked to make sure I had "all pages" selected to print and, yes,
it was already selected. The book is set up to print page 1 and 44 on the
same sheet, pages 2 and 43, 3/42, 2/41, etc. I'm only getting to pages 11/34
and then nothing else prints.

What I did with the original booklet that I got via e-mail, was to save it
as another file and then add/deleate some pages as well as simply change some
information on some of the existing pages. Once I finished my new book, I
deleated (yikes) the origial file. I have another, unrelated project (though
not in book form) that is printing ok.

Just as a reminder, I could not get my book to print correctly on atwo
different printers at FedEx/Kinkos either.

The original document was created on an older version on Publisher. I am
using Publisher 2007 on Vista. Do you think that could have something to do
with it?

I really appreciate everyone's time and help on this mystery. The goal is
to be able to print this book by my 11:00 lunch meeting tomorrow - I've been
trying for a week!

Look at the Advanced Printer Setup in the Print Setup; Printer Setup Wizard tab,
is everything correct in this screen? I tried to use this Wizard, but because
Publisher can detect the duplex unit it will not keep the two-sided option. I
have the same problem with another printer that does not have a duplex unit.
Instead of Publisher saying it will print half the booklet and then give you the
option of turning the pages over; Publisher comes up with a message that says it
will print all the pages because I don't have a two sided module. My printer
does have an optional duplexer available, but I never bought it.

Can't win... Maybe your printer doesn't have the capability to duplex and as Don
says it is waiting for you to turn the stack over.

I have spent a lot of time trying to duplicate your issue, I simply cannot. I
can get the entire 44 pages to print, I then can alternate the stack and print
the other side. I end up with two complete booklets. Of course with the duplex
unit only one booklet prints.

Are the pages that are NOT printing contain content from the old original
that was emailed to you?

I'm thinkin' there's some junk from the old file in the new file.

What I would do, since you still have some time...is set up a NEW pub file
with your printer, then open a second instance of Publisher with the problem
document and group each page's content and copy/paste into each new page.

I used the print wizard to set up my printer for this project, but the middle
pages are still not showing up on the print preview.

I'm getting the feeling that re-creating the book from scratch may be my
only option.

K

KL Anders

I had that same thought, so I tried just that - no luck!

Unfortunately, I've been working on this for so long that I really can't
remember if the non-printing pages contain old or new content, but I really
think it's probably a combination of both old and new. (Yijes!)

Do you still have your Publisher 2003 disk? Create a folder on your hand drive
and install 2003 into it as a standalone.
