printing a selection

I have word 2000. When I highlight an amount of text on my document, whether a sentence or a paragraph and want to print just that new text into the original document at the correct placement it won't do that. It prints but at the top of the document. How can you get the new text to print in place on the document. I hope this isn't confusing.
