Problem installing Office 2000 on Terminal Server

S

Steve Strom

I have gone through the MS Terminal Server group and have been referred to
this group.

I have configured a custom TermSrvr.MST file via the Office Resource Kit and
instructions found at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011379561033.aspx I
installing to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. The command I am issuing is:
S:\SETUP.EXE TRANSFORMS="\\PPSSRV2\C$\Program
Files\ORKTools\ToolBox\Tools\Terminal Server Tools\TERMPPS.MST" /l*
"\\PPSSRV2\D$\Zip\Office 2000 Setup(0003).txt"

The S-drive is the CD-ROM using the Office Install CD. I have also, tried
running this from the local hard drive with the same results. In each case
I configure the TERMPPS.MST for the location the Office installation files
exist.

I have am configuring the MST file to only install Excel, Word, and Access,
without Outlook, PowerPoint, and I.E. 5 since we have IE - 6 installed. I
have tried using the default TERMSRVR.MST without modifications and get the
same failed result.

Basically the failure is always the same basic thing:

I get an error message: "Some Default settings in Microsoft Office 2000
setup do not work properly on Windows Terminal Server. To install Office on
Terminal Server, you must use the instructions and tools available in your
Office 2000 Resource Kit or at http://www.microsoft.com/office/ORK."

Looking at the Office installation log this line repeats numerous times:

"DEBUG: Error 2746: Transform 1TTo1U invalid for package
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1.ODP\LOCALS~1\Temp\3cdc1cc.msi. Expected product

It looks like it is not plugging in the correct product code. hope you can
help. Thank you very much!

Hi Steve,

I'm not clear on your use of the Office product CD.
For the MST to be applied you'd usually want to be
using an Office Admin Point as the installation source
that would be setup using Setup /A with a volume license
key.

You may also want to check to see if you have the updated
setup program from the downloads section of the Office 2000
resource kit on http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2000

installing to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server.

I have tried several times to install from an Administrative install of the
Office software(setup /a) and from CD direct. The ORK was the latest
download as of 9/8/2005. The error message has always been the same.

Hi Steve,

To create an Office Admin point you need a volume
license (enterprise) software key. Once the
Admin point is created you apply the MST to that
location. Did you check the downloads in the
ORK 2000 for the enhanced (fixed) setup program?
