Problem installing to Windows 98 SE

Trying to install office 2000 professional on windows 98
SE machine. It will run and allow me set the install
options and then will just hang at the dialog box that
says INSTALLING MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000. Now, I can't open
the applications. And I cannot remove the Office 2000
program from the add/remove programs dialog. What to do?
