problem opening filename.doc from email

B

Bill carrico

I receive a filename.doc in my email. I double click on the filename.doc in my email and get a word error message "cannot find file". However, if Word is open in the background, the email filename.doc will open properly in word

I use word 2003

I have the exact same issue if I receive a powerpoint filename.ppt file in my email

How do I resolve this conflict?

Don't open Word documents directly from email, for two reasons: (a) danger
of a macro virus and (b) danger that you will edit and save the document and
lose all your edits because you are saving to a temporary folder, and the
document will be deleted when you quit Word/Windows.

Instead, right-click on the document, save it to your HD (My Documents or
another suitable folder), and then open it from there.
