Problem uninstalling preview version of Office 2007

I have an earlier preview version of Office 12 installed, and the beta 2
installer asks me to uninstall the preview version first.
When I go to add/remove programs to try and remove it, I get a dialog box
with the following error:

installer cleanup tool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us) and
delete the program files\microsoft office\office12 directory and rerun
setup.
