problem when opening an existing file

Problem is with an existing excel file. Upon opening the
select cells function is locked in. Any cursor movement
changes the size of the selection. Enter function does
not work. The only way to exit the program is alt-
control-del to task manager. Error message says that the
program cannot be closed because it is waiting for a
response from the user. Any suggestions?

Hi
one idea: you have enabled the extended mode. Hit F8 to
toggle between this mode and the 'normal' mode
