Problem while installing OfficeXP Pro on Win98SE

Had Office for Small Business on computer. Tried to install OfficeXP
Pro...after the 2nd disc, restart, (removed disc), got an error (probably
shouldn't have taken out the 2nd disc). Major problem is now the laptop takes
forever to boot up and I get the error message: Explorer caused an invalid
page fault in module BRIDGE.DLL at 017f:01e31616.
And the computer is totally non-responsive (desk top looks normal) - can't
even do ctrl-alt-delete....have to turn off w/the power button.
What happened/how to fix?

thanks for the suggestion. it is not my laptop and I'm sure it is not clean!
no firewall, it runs from dialup, not networked. Yes, have current AV (at
least something is right)

The last estimate for infection I read, gave 20mins for dialup and 10mins
for broadband, allthough I have seen it in 5mins on a dialup.
