Problem with "Circle" shape in word documents

I use circles (actually ovals) to show differences between two sets of
numbers in word but am currently experiencing difficulties in Word 2003. When
I create one, I can't move it all without it disappearing from my screen.
When I try to copy one, it doesn't appear until I copy a third one.

I've already changed it so that the picture is in front of text. I also
turned the "automatically create drawing canvas when creating autoshapes".
This was much easier in earlier versions of word.

Tried that but it didn't work. Circles don't appear until I copy another one.
Also, I can't move them. Thirdly, when I try to copy one, it copies more than
one. If I try to select one, it disappears until I copy a new one and then I
get two instead of one.

Okay, let me take a stab at it. This works in Paint at least and maybe it
will in Word.
Draw your first circle and size it. Then copy it. Move the circle to where
you want it. For the next circle, use paste. Drag it to the position you
want. I believe that if you hold down the ALT key while dragging, you can
place a graphic anyplace, not just to the invisible grid.

This only works for the first "copy" but subsequent ones don't work. I also
use arrows in my document and have the same problem. Nothing shows up where
and when you expect it.
