problem with "save in" pull down - application hangs

After installing Office 2003, I encounter a severe problem when creating a
new document (e.g. ppt-file) and when saving the created (or editted)
document using the pull down option "save in". This causes the application to
stop responding. Even when using the taskmanager stop the application, the
system will hang and requires a hard reboot. This causes the latest files
created to be lost... Does anybody have a suggestion or is there a patch
availablefor this problem? I ran the Office update but no updates are
available for my version. (Office 2003 - English, Windows CP Professional -
English SP2, Sony Vaio Laptop with Centrino 1.6 GHz and 512 MB memory)
