Problems Copy/Paste from Excel

About two weeks ago I installed Firefox as a web browser. Within about two
hours of installing it, I could not copy tables in Excel and paste them into
Publisher unless I hit the copy (Alt-C) about a dozen times. Finally, I'd be
able to do it. I uninstalled Firefox within minutes, and installed Office a
couple of times, but alas, my copy/paste function is still faulty in
Publisher. As I said, eventually, it kicks in and I can paste, but I have to
repeat copy/paste about a dozen times to get it to work. I've looked
everywhere in the Firefox documentation to fix the registry, and have tried
several things, but nothing works.

How about Ctrl+C? Or edit, copy? Do they work?
What version Office?
Have you tried "detect & repair?" How about restore back to before you installed
FireFox?

Ctl+C, Edit, copy do all work, but it takes repeating them about a dozen
times to get them to work. They will not work the first time I try them. I'm

Might read this support article
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Clipboard_not_working

Open Office clipboard from the Edit menu. Do your copies show up?
Drag the clipboard icon to the desktop and create a shortcut, (or double-click
it) when you open it, can you clear it?
The clipboard is found here
C:\WINDOWS\system32 (clipbrd.exe)

I checked all the links you gave, downloaded the uninstall program and ran
it, and it did nothing. I also re-downloaded Firefox again, hoping they had
fixed it. I still have the problem.

Let me again go through what the problem is and when it comes up.

1. Copy a table in Excel. This is a portion of a worksheet.
2. The copied item shows on the Office Clipboard
3. In Publisher, the Paste and Paste Special items are grayed out.
4. Repeat Copy several times until the Paste/Paste Special are not grayed
out in Publisher.
5. If I try to click the Paste option from the Clipboard, it will paste the
table down, but I want it to be a Windows Metafile format. For that, I need
Paste Special.
6. If I undo the Paste from the Clipboard, I have the choices of only New
Text or HTML.
7. Now, if I go back to Excel and copy, odds are pretty good that I'll see
the Paste Special in Publisher.

I have HUNDREDS of Excel tables that I need to paste in Publisher. With this
small bug, it has increased the amount of time it takes me to prepare a
report by at least three or four fold. I really need to fix this problem.

I am all out of ideas. Check your security settings in Publisher, be sure it is
set to medium.
Try, Insert, object, scroll down to the Excel choices, tick from file and browse
to the file.

This could be a Windows issue. I have tried all sorts of Excel tables, all of
them will paste special as a .wmf. A simple paste will bring up the editable
table, I can copy it within Publisher and paste special as a .wmf.

I appreciate you willing to consider how to fix this issue. I'll be glad to
set up a GoToMeeting session so you can see exactly what I'm talking about.
Let me know if you'd like to see what I see and I'll email you to set it up.

Preston,

Copy your selection in Excel to the clipboard. Switch to Publisher (2003)
and choose Office Clipboard from the Edit drop down menu. Locate your item
and click to insert.

Firefox has nothing to do with this issue. Firefox has been installed and
continuously updated on 30 computers in our Computer Club's Classroom and
Laboratory since 1.0 was released. The Publisher instructors have never
mentioned the problem.

If you have Windows XP Automatic update turned on you probably have many
System Restore points to select from. Another way to insure that you always
have System Restore points in the future, without your overt actions is to
download and install Windows Defender Beta.
