Problems opening .ppt file

When i try to open the file abc.ppt i get this error message:

Can not open the type of file abc.ppt.

I have checked the file extension, it is .ppt

Please give a solution

Has the file moved?
Are you starting powerpoint then File > open
or are you double clicking the file for powerpoint to start, and open the file?

Yes the file are moved.

When I double click the file for powerpoint to start I only get the PP
program.
When I then use File > open I got the error message.
