Production to Test Environment

As in the subject I have to do it... usually people do the opposite :)

Dear all,
I have to "replicate" my production environment with all customs (like
views, budget resources, categories, etc.) and all datas (projects, tasks,
allocations, etc.) to a test environment just for test purposes :)
I am talking about a project server 2007 environment (2 tiers structure)
with sql 2005 standard installed into the db server.

Actually I created the empty environment (no customs views, no projects,etc.).

Using the project server 2007 resource kit's tool Playbooks.exe I created
the backup of the production environment (.xml) and I restored it replacing
the test environment db (empty, just installed).

Checking which data are contained into the test environment I saw that there
is everything expect "projects, resources, etc." how can I restore also that
datas?
Is there a way to do that?

Just to be more complete I would say that I am working into a 2003 domain
environment so I added both machines to the domain (I have to pick up with
syncronization project resources from ad users).

I tried to backup the Shared Services DB via central administration and
recover it into the test farm, anyway I am getting an error that refer to the
Shared Services Web Application saying that the UID is not valid...I am
thinking that is trying to find the same UID existent into the production
farm. At this point I would try to restore the entire farm because getting
only parts of it is producing correlation errors.

Any advice or feedback? Any previous experience doing this?

Thank you all

Matteo

Matteo,

This is why i said use the sharePoint backup and restore....

I have not been able to get the farm up and running with DB backups only

Misread your earlier reply...sorry... :)

Anyway, like you say, it seems unlikely that one can restore on a component
level like that - i have tried it myseflf and could not get it to link up
properly...
