Program is running slowly

I have Powerpoint from Office XP. I put together presentations on a regular
basis and have never had problems with the program. Suddenly, yesterday
evening the program began running extremely slowly and has remained that way.
It has taken me 2 hours to finish 5 slides when I can usually do about 20 in
the same period of time. Any suggestions?
