Project 2000 to 2007 Conversion problem

B

Bill Thompson

I've recently upgraded from Project 2000 to 2007 Standard (missing out 2003).
I've noticed that when opening a 2000 file in 2007, the text3 field seems to
become customised by adding a lookup table and hence losing all the original
data in the text3 field. It doesn't seen to happen to other text fields.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so are there any solutions?

Thanks

This sounds like a source data problem in your P2000 file. Try making a very
simple file in P2000 and examine the text3 field carefully to be sure it is
not a drop down. Then save the file and import it to P2007. Should be no
problems, although I do not have P2000 here to verify.

Jim,

Thanks for the advice. I tried it and a non-customised field in P2000 does
work correctly in P2007.
I also tried checking what happens to a customised text field. The file I
had problems with had a customised text field where the "value list" in P2000
was set to allow additional items to be entered in the field. When opeing
this in P2007, the field was still customised to "lookup table" (in P2007)
but the "allow additional items" check box was cleared, hence wiping any
additional items originally entered. It seems that the setting of this check
box doesn't copy over from P2000 to P2007.

Regards,

Bill

I am glad you werer able to discover the root of the problem. I don't know
what the compatability rules are for 2000 --> 2007. The only thing I know
for sure is P2003 SP3 and P2007 SP1 allow opening/save of files in either
format.

Make sure you have 2007 SP1 plus all the updates installed. You may want to
try again to see if SP1 corrected the issue. Just an educated guess, that's
all.
