Project 2003 - Resource has Max Units of 50% but that doesn't change their task durations!

Hi,
New to MS Project and trying to solve a problem that may be common -
I've created a resource that has max units of 50% (their time is split
between two of my projects) I was sure in the past that when I assigned
work to a resource with this setup the task duration for the tasks they
were assigned adjusted for this (ie. I assign them 2 days of work and
with a 50% max unit setting this should take 4 days duration etc.)
This isn't working for me. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi,

When you FIRST assign a resource to a task duration will not change
When you subsequently CHANGE the assignment units duration will change, at
least with the default setting of fixed units.
