Project 2003 won't open a published project

I have been using MS Office Project Server with Ms Project 2003 for over a
year to manage and record timesheets. Today when I try to open the published
project PRoject 2003 just shuts down without an error message. The opening
project status bar gets about 3/4 of the way before shutting down. I am
however able to access all the data ok from within SharePoint but the
Collaboration updates can only be done from within MS Project 2003. We have
backups but I'm not sure what I need to recover?
