Project 2007 - reduce MPP files size

In Project 2007 Beta, when old baselines are cleared, and the files is saved,
the file size is reduced. This does not happen in Project 2003. How can this
same process be used with Project 2003. I have a 185 Meg MPP files that I
need to make smaller

In Project 2003, when you open a file, immediately select File, Save before
doing anything. That is when Project does file housekeeping and when you do
a file, Save as.

Rod,

When the exact situation I have is this... I have a 185Meg MPP file with
all 10 of the baseline hold areas used. I clear out all but 2 do as you
suggested below and the file reduces to 174meg when using MSP 2003 SP2. When
I do this exact same thing under MSP 2007 it reduces the file size to 9 meg,
and incredible difference, the only problem is the timescale data is
corrupted when I save it in the MSP 2003 format.

How can I get the same file size reduction in MSP 2003 that I am seeing in
MSP 2007?

David

You could try saving a copy of the project as a template. Project offers to
clear baseline data. Choose that option, but keep all other data and see
what size the template is. If it's small, then take a copy of the template
as your project.

It would be good to report the timescale data problem to Microsoft so they
can fix it.
