Project 98 to 2002

Hi
I have Project 98 and am debating whether to upgrade to 2002.
What thoughts does anyone have on the subject? What is the biggest benefit
in doing so bearing in mind that we are already using Office 2002.
Thanks
Tom

I had too many Dr. Watson crashes with Project 98 when using multiple
MPP files inclued into summary files. Has disappeared with Project
2002. Other than that, not a whole lot of change with the base Project
product, but Microsoft has enhanced the server portions. Also keep in
mind Project 2003 is about to be released.

One of the biggest changes in going from 98 to 2000 and higher is the
addition of the deadline field in tasks. No longer is it necessary (or
desirable) to improperly (IMHO) use a "must finish no later than" constraint
to indicate a deadline and then have to live with the resulting distortions
of the critical path. That single feature alone is worth the upgrade cost
in my opinion. Also if you have multiple projects consolidated into a
master project it was very easy to exceed the maximum of 9 levels of subtask
indentation in Proj 98. This limit is expanded to 65k+ outlining levels in
Proj 2000 and above - not that you'll ever need that many but it's not at
all uncommon to need more than 9.
