Project consulting and Administrative task reporting

Greg

Hello,
I need help. I have been installing and running a MS
Project Server 2003 test implementation over the last 3
month. We are now in the process of deciding if we should
roll out MS Project for our whole company. To do so we
would need professional consulting in the Boston area. SO
my first question, can anyone suggest a company that would
offer such a service?

The additional problem is that my unit lead that will be
one of the persons that will decide if the implementation
should take place or not asked me to solve one problem
first. We use an Administrative Project for Training,
Vacation and Illness recording.
What he now wants is a way to view the vacation and
training times that are booked by the resources until end
of this year - in order to be able to compare and make
sure that not all resources that are responsible for an
important task are on vacation or training the same time.

Thus I need a way to report the booked times of the
Administrative Project in a way that he can easily notice
which resource will be on vacation.
Lacking any better I offered one solution using excel but
in his opinion Project should offer that.
Thus my question: Is there any way to customize a view so
it will report vacation time per resource in a gantt chart
way??? It is quite important for me to solve this cause it
would enhance the chances for a Project roll out for which
I would become responsible. something I would like to
happen!!!

Thanks for your help

Regards

Greg

To answer your second question, if you are using a single administrative
plan, why don't you simply print the Task Usage report (View - Reports -
Workload)? This Report will show you who has booked vacation, training, or
sick leave on a weekly basis. Hope this helps.

Dale,

just using the workload per resource report is not
helping - we use a admin project with training, vacation,
illness and admin absence. but the report should show only
vacation and training as a total per resource. i need it
as an overview so the individual unit leads and project
managers can scan it once in a while to check that there
are no key - resources absence at the same time. It would
best be some kind of gantt chart view. is there any
posibility to customize that?

i also looked at your company, are you also doing full
implementations and hosting? it would be in our interest
to have external hosting and training if we decide to go
with Project.

regards

Greg

I'm not certain why the Task Usage reports won't work for you, since it
clearly shows weekly time periods and the nonworking time booked to each
resource. Although there is no default method to produce the type of Gantt
Chart with the information you wish, if anyone on your staff is familir with
Microsoft Project VBA, it is possible to write a macro to produce what we
might call a "nonworking time Gantt Chart."
