Project Pro crashes when saving the Enterprise Resource Pool

Bob Sarni

Greetings,

I am trying to make some changes to my Enterprise Resource Pool using
Project Professional 2002. If I check out resources individually and
make changes, project will crash about half of the time when doing
this. I have problems when checking out the whole pool or a large
number of resources. If checking at the whole or a large portion of
the pool - project will ALWAYS crash when saving. Our pool currently
contains 270 resource including generic resources. If I make any
changes and save the pool, I get an unexpected error, asks me if I
want to send a report to Microsoft, then closes Project. I then have
to go back into PWA and check in all the resources before I can check
them out again with Project Pro. Any suggestions? Could be very time
consuming if I have to make all these changes individually.
Info:
Project Pro 2002 Service Pak 1 - Hotfixes Q812639 and Q31212
Windows 2000 Service Pak 3
Both Project Server and SQL Server reside on large multiprocessor
servers with high bandwith network connections.
Resource info being modified - Max Units, Std Rate, Skill1 (using a
enterprise outline code) - Not all at the same time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This doesn't seem normal and I don't know that I have run into this issue.
Have you tried multiple other computers with Project Pro to see if any other
machines have this problem? My first inclination would be that this is a
machine specific problem. Please let us know if you find this to happen on
several other machines.
